Organs Found in Fairfield Examined, Determined To Be Deer's

A look at unusual arrests and police investigations in our area.

A 47-year-old Norwalk man has been arrested by city police after allegedly pulling off a scam five times where he bought Dyson vacuums from Wal-Marts, removed their motors and then returned them for a refund. Police said it required extensive review of Wal-Mart surveillance photos and videos to determine the car the perpetrator was driving, then learn his identification. They said their investigation led to a car rented in northern New Jersey from Hertz. Detectives obtained a search warrant, and Hertz turned over to them all of paperwork and videos concerning the vehicle. OMG PD twist: The man posted $10,000 bond after he was charged with third-degree larceny. With that money, he could have bought 17.2 Dysons.

Fairfield police brought in a woman who operates a search and rescue organization and has a dog trained to search for cadavers after a man walking on Southport Beach last weekend reported finding a heart and lung at the high-tide mark. A veterinarian also summoned to the scene couldn’t determine if the organs were from a human or animal. OMG PD twist: Police eventually delivered the heart and lung to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington, who determined Monday morning that they were from a deer. "I couldn't even speculate how it got there," Police Sgt. Sue Lussier, a department spokesman, said of the remains on the beach. More .

In a scam that seems straight out of “The Sting,” a man appears to have confused a clerk in Wilton to steal $100 after buying a pack of gum. After presenting a greeting card with $98 in mixed bills to a cashier at the Village Market, the suspect reportedly asked for $20 in for his mixed bills so he could put it in the greeting card, then counted out his money — coming up $2 short — and asking if he could run to his car for the additional $2. OMG PD twist: Later, police said, when the clerk checked the card that should have had the $100 in mixed bills in it, shredded paper was found inside. .

A 43-year-old Trumbull man faces breach of peace charges after he allegedly reached into a man’s car and ripped his shirt. Instead, one of the drivers involved in the cut-off was his own daughter, who reported the incident to him. More on this off-road rage .

Stamford police are calling a 51-year-old city woman a “professional swindler” and “one-woman crime spree” after bringing charges for three separate incidents in 2010 where she allegedly issued bad checks and used a stolen credit card. The woman is accused of using a credit card that belonged to a patient at the doctor’s office where she worked to buy pizza four times last summer, as well as writing more than $5,000 in bad checks to a landlord, real estate agent and others. OMG PD twist: One of those that the professional is accused of swindling is a bail bondsman, who complained to police that the suspect wrote in a $2,200 check that bounced following a Sept. 19 arrest. .
