UPDATE: Police Locate Missing Suicidal Person

The man was reported missing by his family Wednesday afternoon and was found a few hours later.

The Westport Police have called off the search for a missing "bipolar suicidal person" after he was found Wednesday evening.

Lt. John Calka of the Westport Police Department said the incident was considered "a medical call."

The man was being driven by a family member through Westport en route to another location, which Calka would not release, when the man jumped out of the car near Bridge Street.

"The relative became concerned for his welfare and reported it to us at the police department," Calka said. "We were able to locate him and he was fine."

Due to medical privacy laws, Calka said he could not release further details nor could he say if the man was transported to a hospital.

The Westport Police Department cautioned residents at 4 p.m. to be aware of the potentially dangerous situation. He had last been seen in the area of 35 Bridge Street at 2:40 p.m. An alert was issued to residents at approximately 4 p.m and police said at 5:20 p.m. that he had been found.

Police described the white male as being 25 years old, six-feet-four-inches tall, 250 pounds with long brown hair. He was reported to have been wearing tan pants and possibly no shirt. Police said he had a snake head tattoo on his right chest.
