Police Blotter: Man Attempts to Unload Stolen Coins at Sam Sloat

Police reports from Aug. 29-31.

The second person in as many weeks was caught trying pawn off stolen goods at Sam Sloat Coins on Post Road East. According to the report, Alexandre Silva, 39, of Fairfield, tried selling coins worth $4,000 to $6,000 on Aug. 31. The employee regognized the coins from a flyer issued by Fairfield police. The coins had been stolen during a burglary. Westport detectives arrived at the store and arrested Silva. He was charged with two counts of third-degree larceny. Silva's bail was set at $2,500 and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 10.  

Mihaita Anton, 42, of Norwalk, was arrested on Aug. 28 at 6:50 p.m. on a charge of driving under the influence. According to the report, police received a complaint that a vehicle was being parked erratically in the parking lot at 20 Saugatuck Ave. When they arrived and spoke to Anton, they detected an odor of alcohol on her breath and that she was slurring her words. She failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. Anton's bail was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 28.

Matthew Faillace, 29, of Weston was arrested on Aug. 29 at 1:37 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence, insurance coverage below minimums, operating under suspension and failure to drive in a proper lane. According to the report, there was a traffic accident at 41 Oak St. When police arrived, they found the driver, Faillace, unsteady on his feet with an odor of alcohol on his breath. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. Faillace's bail was set at $1,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Sept. 8.
