Police Blotter: Nanny Smokes Marijuana With Child, Fraud, Shoplifting

The latest crime reports from the Westport Police Department.

The following crime reports were obtained from the Westport Police Department for the week of July 26 to Aug. 2.

A Norwalk nanny employed in Westport was arrested Thursday on a charge of risking injury to a child. Lori Hughes, 40, provided and smoked marijuana with a juvenile under her care, according to a police report. No further details were released. She was issued a $25,000 bond.

Vipul Patel, 25, Sabi Randhawa, 36, and Giselle Gonzales, 23, all of New York, were arrested Thursday on credit card fraud charges, including conspiracy to commit larceny, illegal use of a scanning device, larceny and unlawful reproduction of a credit card. See original story here. They were issued bonds between $1,000 and $50,000 and are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 9.

Michael Petropulos, 30, of Westport  was issued a misdemeanor summons on Friday for a shoplifting charge. According to the police report, officers responded to a larceny complaint at CVS on Post Road East where an investigation revealed Petropulos had been observed to walk out of the store with a basket containing merchandise and place it is his car. When he returned to the store he was confronted by management and retrieved the basket. The total amount of items taken was $133.95. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 13.

Paul Emery, 43, of New Haven was arrested Friday on charges of larceny and forgery. Detectives arrested Emery in Derby Superior Court where he was appearing on other charges, according to the police report. His original case stemmed from September 2009 when Emery passed counterfeit $20 bills at two locations in Westport, according to the report. He was issued a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 9.
