Here are the latest crime reports and arrests from the Westport Police Department:

  • Carlton Bailey of Bridgeport, 54, was arrested Friday on charges of drug possession and criminal impersonation. His bond was set at $5,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 14. Bailey was the passenger of a vehicle that had been stopped on Post Road East near the Sherwood Island Connector for an improper display of plates. While Bailey was retrieving his identification from his pocket, the officer observed a glass pipe fall from his pocket. The pipe was the type used for smoking cocaine and was later found to contain cocaine residue. A further search of the vehicle revealed two syringes concealed near the front seat passenger's seat where Bailey had been seated.  Bailey gave a false name to the officers. His true identity was discovered after running his fingerprints, according to the police report.
  • Samuel Stein of Westport, 54, was arrested Saturday on charges of DUI and evading responsibility. His bond was set at $1,500 and he is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 17. According to the report, police responded to a car vs. pole accident at 209 Compo Road South Saturday. Upon arrival they found the vehicle had fled the scene heading southbound on Compo Road South. Officers were able to follow a trail of fluids to 275 Compo Road South where they found the vehicle parked in the carport with the operator still in the vehicle. The officers were able to detect a strong odor of alcohol on Stein's breath. Stein failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, according to the report.
  • Rene Arevalo of Bridgeport, 39, was arrested Sunday on a charge of DUI. A bond was set at $2,500 and a court date is scheduled for Dec. 17. According to the report, police responded to a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway at a Turkey Hill Road South address. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle still running with Arevalo slumped over asleep at the wheel. They detected a strong odor of alcohol on Arevalo's breath. Arevalo failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Arevalo refused to take breath tests. The registration plate on the car was found to belong on a different car, according to the report.
