Police Blotter: Possessing Narcotics School,Texting While Driving

Here's the latest crime reports.

The following police reports were obtained from the Westport Police Department from April 19 - 28.

Jason Sheldon of Ledyard, 29, was arrested April 22 on charges of possessing narcotics, hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana near a school. Sheldon was seen traveling westbound on Post Road West in the left hand lane at the intersection of Riverside Avenue. He was stopped in the vicinity of Kings Highway School. When the officer approached his vehicle, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. Sheldon was taken into custody and a search of his vehicle revealed a container in the center console containing marijuana. A further search revealed five plastic baggies of suspected marijuana, two plastic baggies of suspected hallucinogenic mushrooms and one clear container holding two pills, later found to be ecstasy and oxycontin. His bond was set at $25,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court May 3.

  • Kelvin Castaneda of Bridgeport, 22, was arrested Tuesday on charges of larceny, operating an unregistered vehicle, misusing license plates and driving without a license. He was seen driving a vehicle with two different registration plates. When stopped by a Westport police officer, a computer check revealed that one of the plates was listed as stolen by Stratford Police. The vehicle was also found to be unregistered, uninsured and missing a fender.Castaneda was found to have no driver's license. He was taken into custody without incident. His bond was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in court May 7.
  • Channing Allen of Westport, 32, was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. His bond was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in court May 5.
  • Jamie Whittier of Trumbull, 33, was arrested April 23 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, following too closely and distracted driving. She was involved in a two-car accident due to texting when she struck the rear of a car waiting at the traffic light at the intersection of Compo Road North and Main Street. According to a police report, Whittier said she was texting while driving and when she looked up and saw the car in front of her, she could not stop in time. At the accident scene, police detected "a strong odor of alcohol" on her breath. She failed sobriety tests, according to the report and was taken into custody. A $500 bond has been set for her and she is scheduled to appear in court May 6.
  • Sean Mickune of Westport, 40, was arrested April 23 on a DUI charge. According to a police report, Mickune was involved in a two-car accident where he struck the rear of a vehicle waiting at the traffic light at Park Street and Saugatuck Avenue. While speaking with him, the officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the report. Mickune failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. His bond was set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in court May 4.
  • William Birnie of Westport, 25, was arrested April 23 on a charge of failure to appear in court for a case that stems from an April 2009 suspected attempted larceny at CVS. Birnie was stopped and found to have a suspended license. His bond was set at $2,500 and he is scheduled to appear in court May 3.
  • on charges of misrepresenting his age to purchase liquor and possessing alcohol as a minor. The arrest stems from a February party held by Westporter Kwong Chung where a serious assault took place and left a Fairfield University student in intensive care at Norwalk Hospital. Powell was one of the providers of the alcohol. An investigation continues. His bond was set at $10,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court today.
  • Martin Marosy of Worscester on charges of possessing alcohol as a minor and illegally selling alcohol. The arrest stems from the same February party described above. Marosy was one of the alcohol providers at the party, according to police. His bond was set at $10,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court today.
  • Kwong Chung of Westport, 18, was arrested April 20 on a charge of possessing alcohol as a minor. His arrest stems from the same February party he held at his 80 Hillspoint Road home in which a serious assault took place. Police continue to investigate the incident. Chung was issued a $10,000 bond and he was scheduled to appear in court today.
  • John MacadaLondono of Sunnyside on charges of forgery, larceny, criminal impersonation and attempt to commit larceny. Their bonds were set at $500,000 and $100,000 respectively and they were scheduled to appear in court today. According to the police report, police responded to a report of a larceny at Amy Coe 151 Post Rd. E. It was learned that a Hispanic male had just passed a counterfeit $100 bill at that location. At the same time, a report was made that an attempt to pass a counterfeit $100 was made at Joe's Pizza at 143 Post Rd. E. A description of the individual involved was broadcast to all cars. A patrolling unit spotted a person matching the description getting out of a car in the area of 1790 Post Rd. E. and investigating units converged on that location. Both the car and the suspect were kept under observation as the suspect entered Garelick and Herbs at 1799 Post Rd. E. As the suspect exited Garelick and herbs, he was confronted by police. It was learned that he had also passed a counterfeit bill at that location as well. Both suspects were taken into custody. The suspect on foot (Macada-Moreno) was paying for small purchases with the $100 bills and the change was his profit. Additional counterfeit $100 bills were found in their possession. During processing, it was learned that Macada-Moreno was wanted in New Jersey. The U.S. Secret Service is assisting in the investigation.
  • Christopher Jonas of Westport, 65, and Steve Laitman of Westport, 69, were issued a misdemeanor summons April 19 on charges of breach of peace. According to a police report, police responded to the condominiums at 301 Post Rd East regarding an ongoing dispute between two neighbors. The dispute is over whose water heater leaked causing damage to Laitman's unit.
