Police Investigating Armed Robbery at YMCA

Man displayed a semi-automatic handgun.

The Westport Police Department is investigating an armed robbery, which occurred Wednesday night in the rear parking lot of the YMCA on Elm Street, according to a news release.

 Two females were leaving the back entrance of the YMCA that night when they were approached by a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with the hoodie pulled over his face, gloves, and  displaying a black semi-automatic handgun. The suspect took purses from both women and then fled on foot towards the Post Road.

The suspect was described as a male, race and age are unknown, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall with a stocky build and wearing a navy-colored hooded sweatshirt.

The robbery is being investigated by the Westport Police Department Detective Bureau.
