Police Recover $5,000 of Stolen Merchandise From New York Shoplifters

Shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, two men were taken into custody for allegedly stealing items from a Westport CVS.

called the reporting that a suspect had fled the store after shoplifting items.

Police responded to the area and Officer Albert Nowinski located a vehicle in the vicinity containing an adult accomplice, Jeffrey Louis Vaughn, and a female juvenile accomplice. The officers located the items stolen from CVS in the vicinity of the vehicle as well as items stolen from drug stores from surrounding communities. Approximately $5,000 worth of merchandise was recovered. The merchandise consisted of teeth whitener, hair growth treatment, razor blades and allergy medicines.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect that fled the CVS store was not in the vehicle but was on foot in the vicinity. Some of the responding officers viewed the store video and the suspect. State police responded with two Troopers and a K9. While checking area stores, Officer Paul Wargo recognized the suspect in a nearby store and took the suspect into custody with the assistance of Officer Kevin Smith and the state police

Vaughn, 26, of Jamaica Queens, New York, and Cecil L. Williams, 35, of Brooklyn, New York, were both charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. Both suspects were issued $10,000 bonds for court Dec. 8.
