Power Restoration Continues as New Calls of Downed Wires Are Received

Connecticut Light & Power hopes to have all Westport customers restored by 5 p.m.

About 1,600 Westport customers remain without power following Wednesday evening's storm, according to Connecticut Light & Power spokeswoman Katie Blint.

Blint said the company hopes to have everyone reconnected by 5 p.m.

Blint said CL&P has 130 crews working throughout the state, including 80 from sister companies Western Massachusetts Electric and Public Service of New Hampshire.

Blint said the northwest to southeast direction of the storm caused the greatest damage in Westport, Wilton and Stamford.

She said CL&P is still receiving calls of downed wire. The number to call to report an outage is (800) 286-2000.

Blint said the worst areas hit in the state included Westport, Wilton and Stamford. As of Thursday morning, Wilton still had 2,400 people without power.

She said the peak number of outages from this storm statewide was 54,000, compared to a high of 100,000 customers who were left without power after the nor'easter  in March.

The National Weather Service says it will be looking into reports a tornado touched down in Westport. Another tornado was reported in Litchifield County.
