Reckless Boater Charged Following Accident With Injuries in Westport

The Westport Police Marine Unit responded Saturday to a report that a person onboard a boat near Compo Beach had been struck by the boats' propellar.

 

Marine Units were dispatched at about 5:30 p.m. and intercepted the boat that was carrying the seriously injured 21-year-old man, police said.

Westport EMS and additional officers were dispatched to the Ned Dimes Marina at Compo Beach. The victim was treated and transported to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries to his lower extremities, police said.

The vessel, a 2008 26 foot Sea Ray Sun Deck, is registered out of Westport. The operator, identified as 21-year-old Cyrus Hussein Fardoust, of Rockville, Maryland, was charged with reckless operation of a vessel while under the influence (first DUI). 

Fardoust was held on $10,000 bond. The incident remains under investigation by the Westport Marine Police.
