Road Use Restrictions near Westport Train Station Area Rescinded

Update, 5 p.m., May 21

All road use restrictions near the Westport train station have been rescinded, according to Westport Police Chief Dale Call.

Westport Police issued the following advisory Tuesday afternoon:

Limited rail service (one through track at the scene of Friday’s crash) resumed beginning with the 3:07 train (scheduled arrival in Westport at 4:13 PM) departing from Grand Central Station. Service into Grand Central will resume beginning with the 4:23 train (scheduled arrival in Westport at 5:02 PM) departing from New Haven.

Please pay attention to MTA announcements for track assignments.   All scheduled station stops will be made, including Westport and Greens Farms and all points east.

Bus service provided by MTA for out-of-town riders will end at 4:30 PM. This means that the only buses departing from the Saugatuck train station will be regular Norwalk Transit/Westport transit service.

  • All road restrictions are rescinded in the train station area.
  • Extra traffic personnel will be on hand throughout the afternoon to assist with the expected traffic resulting from this morning’s higher than normal parking usage.
The Westport Police Department would like to thank our commuting public and local business community for their understanding and cooperation over the previous two days.

Original Post, May 20

Saugatuck Railroad Lot #2, the lot at the end of Railroad Place adjacent to the Westport train station's NY-bound tracks, will be closed to commuter parking until 9AM on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Westport Police Department. The advisory states the following:

MTA and NTD shuttle buses will be using this lot to stage, drop off and pick up riders. In order to turn buses no cars can be parked here. This will impact about 50 spaces until 9AM. If demand is low then the lot will be opened sooner.

MTA officials expect heavier rider turnout on 5/21 as passengers look at today's light usage of services. MTA and WPD personnel will be on site early to assist and direct passengers.

Limited service will continue on 5/21. Once again, expect heavy traffic. Do not assume that todays light traffic will be repeated.

ALL dropoffs by private vehicle and ALL permit and daily parking will be directed away from Railroad Place unless there is light bus traffic once again.

Again - if dropping off use Ferry Lane. Do NOT use Railroad Place.

The Westport Police Department thanks all those concerned for their cooperation today and tomorrow morning.
