[Original report]

A 71-year-old female was reportedly killed and a section of Route 7 in Wilton near Zion Hill Church remains closed following a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 7:58 a.m. today.

Wilton police said a dump truck broadsided a Ford Taurus holding four passengers.

In a report, Lieutenant Donald Wakeman Wakeman of the Wilton police Department said that the Ford Taurus exited the lower driveway of the Zion Hill Church complex area and crossed into the northbound lane, directly in front of a Grasso Construction dump truck, which was traveling northbound. Unable to stop, the truck crashed into the passenger side, injuring all four occupants, police said.

All four were transported to Norwalk Hospital. Police said a backseat, left-rear passenger, a 71-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police are not revealing her name or residence before notifying the family of the deceased.

The lower driveway that the Taurus had pulled out from leads to the nursing school parking lot, said Wakeman.

“At this point we have members of our accident reconstruction team still working on the scene. I expect they’ll be doing work on this for the remainder of the day,” said Wakeman.

Wakaman said that the road may be open within another hour.

The investigation is open. The driver of the dump truck was shaken up but not injured, according to police.
