Southport Woman Arrested on DUI Charges

Tosha Bertrand of Southport allegedly failed sobriety tests during a routine traffic stop, according to police.

A 32 year-old Fairfield woman was arrested on Saturday after an officer allegedly caught her driving under the influence of drugs, according to police.

Tosha Bertrand of 951 Flintlock Road, Southport, was observed traveling westbound on Post Road East in the area of Bulkley Avenue North with the vehicle’s high beams illuminated and didn't turn them off when an officer approached from the opposite direction, police said.

The officer turned around to follow the vehicle and observed that Bertrand had her left turn directional signal on, but never turned, according to police. She continued straight and then veered into the eastbound lane and cut back into the right hand westbound lane.

Once stopped, the officer noticed Betrand was fumbling through her papers and spoke slow and methodical. Police said that she denied consuming alcohol, but stated she had taken medication. She failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody where she also submitted to a urine test, according to police.

Betrand was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failure to display lights and failure to drive right. She posted a $500 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on April 30.
