Three-Car Accident with Injuries on the Merritt

Two taken to Norwalk Hospital.

The Westport Fire Department with the State Police and Westport EMS responded to a report of a multi-vehicle accident with injury at 4:50 a.m. today, according to a news release.

The accident occurred on the Merritt Parkway, northbound between exits 42 and 44, about a quarter-mile before the Bayberry Lane underpass.

Upon arrival, fire department units found a three-car accident, with heavy front end damage to one vehicle, heavy rear end damage to a pickup truck and moderate damge to a third vehicle.

Firefighters packaged the lone patient from the pickup truck and assisted EMS with removal of the driver on to a backboard for transport to Norwalk Hospital with injuries. All other occupants involved in the accident refused medical treatment on scene, according to the release.

Firefighters remained on scene with the State Police until all vehicles were removed by various towing companies.  The Merritt Parkway was completely closed northbound throughout the duration of the accident and was re-opened at about 5:44 a.m. when the last fire units cleared the scene.
