Two-Car Accident Sends Drivers to Hospital

Heavy damage and moderate injuries were reported.

The Westport Fire Department, Westport EMS, and State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident Friday night with reported injuries on the Connecticut Turnpike, northbound between exit 17 and 18.

Upon arrival a two-car accident was found in the right travel lane, with heavy damage to both vehicles and both drivers still in the vehicles. Both drivers were reporting minor to moderate injuries and were attended to by fire and EMS personnel. The drivers were transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicles, disconnected the batteries, and controlled fluid leaks from both cars with speedi-dri absorbent. Firefighters remained on the scene until both vehicles were removed by Westport Service Center flatbed wreckers.

The right travel lane was closed until 6:35 p.m. when the last fire department unit cleared following the removal of the damaged vehicles.
