Police received information at around 2 p.m. Tuesday from Staples High School administrators regarding the possible illegal possession of a firearm by an individual who they believed to be at a Lockwood Circle home.

Responding officers arrived at Lockwood Circle and saw two males flee by foot into a nearby wooded area, leading the officers on a chase, according to the report.   Police set up a perimeter in the area; both Westport and Fairfield K-9 united responded. The two males were located and arrested.

While investigating the Lockwood Circle residence where the males fled from, police saw narcotics and paraphernalia in plain view. Detectives determined that a resident in the home did possess a firearm -- legally, and the firearm was not in the possession of an unauthorized person, according to the report.

Both suspects were charged with interfering with an officer, possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The males were identified as Steven Shulman, 18, of Ludlow Road in Westport, and Michael Lynch, 19, of Mill Hill Road in Southport. Both men were released on a promise to appear in court.
