DEP also responded due to a fuel spill.

The Westport and Norwalk fire departments responded Thursday morning to an accident on Interstate 95 between exits 16 and 17 where a Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed into the back of a Signal Marking Inc. construction truck.

Work was being conducted on I-95 North at the time of the accident. The lone driver/ occupant of a Jeep Grand Cherokee had to be extricated from her car and transported to Norwalk Hospital for further treatment of non life threatening injuries, according to Westport Fire Department Assistant Chief Larry Conklin. The driver of the construction vehicle who was in the truck at the time of the accident was also transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Firefighters had to contain about 10 to 15 gallons of diesel fuel due to a broken fuel line in the construction vehicle while awaiting arrival of a Department of Environmental Protection representative. Clean Harbor clean up  contractors were then notified to clean up the spill.
