Westport Firefighters Put Out Commercial Fire

Westport Firefighters extinguished a small fire in a first floor bathroom of a commercial building on Post Road West Tuesday night.

The department received a call for a burning odor in a commercial building at 55 Post Rd. West on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 8:56 p.m.

Westport Fire Dispatch sent three engine companies for a total of six firefighters and one officer to the scene. Arriving firefighters were met by two employees who stated they smelled something burning in a back stairwell of the building, according to Lieutenant Joseph Izzo.

Firefighters found and extinguished a small fire in a first floor bathroom. Smoke was ventilated using fans and the fire was investigated by the Westport Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause is determined to be a door that was propped open against a wall mounted heater and all units cleared the scene shortly after 10 p.m., according to Izzo.
