Westport Man Charged Following Altercation With Repossession Agent

The suspect confronted the agent and proceeded to get a pair of bolt cutters from his garage and cut two chains that linked the tow truck and the truck that was being repossessed, police said.

Westport police charged 57-year-old Thomas Abbots, of 102 Greens Farms Road, with third-degree criminal mischief after he blocked the repossession agent’s truck in with his backhoe and other pickup truck, police said.

Westport police responded to the disturbance Sunday afternoon after the repossession agent attempted to repossess one of Abbott’s pickup trucks, police said. Abbotts confronted the agent and proceeded to get a pair of bolt cutters from his garage and cut two chains that linked the tow truck and the truck that was being repossessed, police said.

After several requests from officers, Abbots still refused to move his backhoe and his other truck, police said. Abbots was also charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer, police said.

Abbotts was taken into custody and later released after posting a $500 bond. He is due in court on October 16.
