Westport Man Charged With DUI After Attempting To Elude Police

Westport Police reports: Oct. 12-17.

  • John Hanley, 20, of 150 Imperial Avenue, Westport, was charged Oct. 14 with DUI, operating under suspension, failure to drive right, disobeying the signal of an officer, refusal to show license, failure to display plates and with a speeding violation. A pickup truck was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on Easton Road. When the officer attempted to stop the truck, it increased speed and swerved over the double yellow line into the northbound lane on Easton Road as if the driver was attempting to elude the officer. There was no rear plate on the truck, and, after about a half mile mile, the truck came to an abrupt stop and the operator, later identified as Hanley, jumped out of the truck, but was stopped. The officer then noticed a distinct and pronounced odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Hanley and he was extremely unsteady on his feet. He failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He refused to submit to the breath test and was later released after posting a $1,500 bond. He is due in court Oct. 25. 
  • A town man was charged Oct. 12 with threatening and disorderly conduct. He was involved in a domestic dispute where he allegedly made threats against two family members. He was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court Monday morning.
  • Marcio Sales, 47, of 35 Fairfield Street, Milford, was charged Oct. 12 with second-degree failure to appear. During a traffic stop on Greens Farms Road, Sales was found to have a warrant for failure to appear in court for charges out of Westport Police Department. He was taken into custody and later released after posting a $1,000 bond. He is due in court Oct. 24. 
  • Shawn Stone, 27, of 1305 Cutspring Road, Stratford, was charged Oct. 12 with second-degree failure to appear. Officers respond to Bridgeport Superior Court where Stone was being held and was turned over to Westport police custody on a warrant for failure to appear in court for motor vehicle charges from Westport police originating back to 2009. He was later released after posting a $75,000 bond. He is due in court Oct. 24.
