Westport Man Linked with 5 Burglaries Arrested

The investigation continues, police say.

The Westport Police Department has arrested Lee Bates who is linked with five burglaries in town. Bates, is a 25-year-old Westporter of 42 Hales Court.

Around 4:20 p.m. Friday, police received a complaint of a residential burglary in the southeastern part of Westport near the Fairfield town line.  While investigating the burglary, a neighbor informed officers at the scene of a vehicle that the car had been in the driveway of the burglarized home earlier in the day.   About an hour later, a patrol officer on duty spotted the vehicle in question and stopped the car.

During the stop, officers discovered stolen goods from the burglary on the floor in front of the passenger seat.  Officers also discovered additional stolen goods, heroin and cocaine in the vehicle, said Captain Foti Koskinas of the Westport Police Department.

While investigating the burglary and with the suspect's cooperation, detectives were able recover a majority of the stolen goods at an antique dealers showroom in Fairfield, Koskinas said in a news release. Additionally, detectives executed a search warrant at another Westport residence where the suspect had been staying and recovered more stolen goods from other burglaries.

As of this time the suspect has been linked to four other Westport burglaries and the investigation is ongoing, Koskinas said.
