Westport Police Charge Hamden Women With Stealing Friend’s Car
Westport police reports: Feb. 27 - 29.
Carletha Bynes, 25, of Hamden, was charged Feb. 27 with third-degree larceny (motor vehicle theft.)
Apparently the owner of the vehicle told Bynes to have the vehicle back by 11:00 p.m. on Feb. 25. She made multiple attempts to contact Bynes with negative results. As of 9:00 the next morning, Byrnes still hadn’t returned it so she reported it stolen, police indicated in the report.
On Feb. 27 the owner called to report that Bynes had just returned the vehicle. When officers arrived, Bynes first told them she had been arrested in New Haven for fighting and had spent the weekend in jail; however, she finally admitted that she went to her boyfriend’s house in New Haven, got drunk and was unable to drive, according to police. Her cell phone had died and she didn’t have the charger so she was unable to contact her friend.
