Westport PD: Drunk Driver Takes Police on Multi-Town Chase

The driver was unable to stand on her own and here eyes were not completely open when police spoke to her, police said.

 

When Westport police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Post Road East near the Fairfield, Westport town line early Sunday morning, the driver fled onto I-95 northbound, police said.

The driver was swerving from the right lane into the middle lane, and although the pursuit only reached speeds of 55 MPH, police said the driving was hazardous to other drivers.

The driver eventually stopped by exit 27 as state police and Bridgeport police cruisers surrounded her car. Officers could smell alcohol on the driver’s breath when they approached her, according to the police report.

The driver was unable to stand on her own and here eyes were not completely open when police spoke to her, police said. Officers did not administer a field sobriety test, as it would have been unsafe to do so because of the driver’s condition, according to the arrest report.

The driver was taken into custody and taken to police headquarters. She submitted to the breath test with the following results: 0.2123 and .02018, police said. 

Westport police charged 47-year-old Marisol, of Fairfield, with driving under the influence of alcohol and disobeying the signal of an officer: elude/attempt escape. Lombardo posted $1,000 bond and was released. She is due in Norwalk Superior Court October 9.
