Westport PD Find Illegal Weapon, Marijuana on Norwalk Driver

The officers initially located the paraphernalia when patting the man down for their safety, but the suspect eventually gave officers consent to search his vehicle.

charged Wayne Smith, 55, of Norwalk, Tuesday morning with weapons in a motor vehicle after police observed him not having a front registration plate on his vehicle.

Smith was stopped on I-95 northbound between exits 19 and 21. During the course of the stop Smith was patted down for officers’ safety and police located marijuana, pipes, and a prescription pill bottle with various pills in his pockets, police said.

He gave officers permission to search his vehicle, which turned up a four inch "butterfly" knife that was in the center console, according to the police report.

Smith was placed under arrest and taken into custody. He was additionally issued an infraction for possession of less than half ounce of marijuana. He was released on a written promise to appear in court May 18.
