Westport PD: Local Man Charged With DUI Following Hit and Run

The man was charged with DUI, though he refused to take a breath test.

 

charged 40-year-old Patrick McCarthy, of 65 Compo Road South, Westport, with operating under the influence, failure to drive in proper lane, evading responsibility and failure to carry license just after 1:00 a.m. on June 15.

McCarthy was arrested after he allegedly hit a parked car in the Minute Man Cleaners parking lot at 600 Riverside Avenue, left his vehicle at the scene and walked away, police said.

He was located a short distance from the scene and while speaking with McCarthy, the officer noticed a distinct and pronounced odor of alcohol on his breath.

McCarthy failed the field sobriety test and was taken into custody. He refused to submit to the breath test, police said. He was unable to make bond and was transported to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment.
