UPDATE: Westport Police Alerted of Bank Robbery in Norwalk

The incident occurred just over the town line.

Norwalk Police have alerted the Westport Police Department of a bank robbery that occurred around 3:34 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairfield County Savings Bank branch on Chestnut Hill Road in Norwalk, a few blocks west of the Westport town line.

Surveillance video footage from the scene showed at least two suspects were involved in the robbery, according to a news release. The first suspect entered the bank and went to a teller station where he passed a note implying that he had a gun and demanded money; no weapon was displayed.  The second suspect remained near the front door as a lookout.  Once the robbery was completed the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money out the door and is believed to have fled out the rear of the shopping plaza onto Newtown Avenue, according to the release.

The first suspect is described as a white man in his mid-20s of thin build with a height between six-foot-one and six-foot-four. He was seen wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt, long white basketball-style shorts with blue and yellow trim along the bottom, white sneakers, a dark T-shirt and a gray baseball hat with an Underarmor logo, sunglasses and a goatee that could be fake. He was seen carrying a black shoulder bag similar to a laptop case, according to the release.

The State Police were responding with a K9 unit. Surrounding towns were also advised.

Capt. Sam Arciola of the Westport Police Department said he did not have any additional information on the suspect's vehicle or the direction he was traveling.

"In cases like this the affected agency in a town or city will put the information they have out to surrounding towns to be aware and they will update us in case we see a vehicle matching the description," Arciola said.

In some cases, suspects may move up and down the coast or along state roads if they plan to rob more than one bank, Arciola said.
