Westport Police Arrest Alleged Burglar After Investigation, Foot Chase

Westport police arrested two burglary suspects early this morning with the assistance of surrounding departments.

have arrested two suspects in connection with a recent burglary in the Burritts Landing area, a burglary hot spot recently.

An officer on patrol in the area located a suspicious female, identified as twenty-year-old Lauren Yeager, of Stamford. Police learned her vehicle was parked on Judy Point Lane and that she was previously accompanied by 24-year-old Westport resident Jamel Washington, a man accused of burglarizing a home in the Burritts Landing area.

There were reports of a man fitting Washington’s description running in the area and a perimeter was set up with the assistance of the state police and Norwalk Police. The Trumbull Police Department responded to the scene with a K-9.

Westport Detectives learned Washington fled the area and was heading to the 3900 block of Black Rock Turnpike in a taxi. Surveillance was set up with the assistance of the Fairfield Police Department. He was confronted by Westport police upon arrival and taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Further investigation revealed his involvement in one of the burglaries in the Burritts Landing area. At about 1 a.m. Washington was charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespassing, interfering with an officer, and criminal violation of a protective order. He is being held on a $60,000 bond for a Dec. 29 court appearance.

Yeager was charged with interfering with an officer and third-degree criminal trespassing and is being held on a $5,000 bond for a Jan. 3 court appearance.
