Westport Police Chief Al Fiore Resigns

Fiore has reportedly agreed to stay on in a consultative capacity until Sept. 2 in order to train his replacement.

After 33 years of service to the town, Westport Police Chief Al Fiore has submitted his resignation, effective as of this past Friday, August 12.

According to a statement from First Selectman Gordon Joseloff, Fiore has agreed to stay on in a consultative capacity until Sept. 2 in order to train his replacement. He reportedly resigned after serving a little over a year of a special two-year contract.

“I have enjoyed my association with the wonderful men and women of the Westport Police Department, the Town of Westport, and the many friends I have made over the years,” Fiore said in the statement. “I thank you and all the other departments for your support and encouragement.”

Deputy Chief Dale Call will serve as acting chief until a successor is named.

Fiore, who became police chief in 2004, had formally retired June 1, 2010 only to be under contract a month later.

He is reportedly leaving his post as police chief in order to pursue a career in the private sector.
