Westport Police Officer Assists Emergency Child Birth

The baby was born within one minute of the officer's arrival.

 

Westport Police received a 911 call reporting a woman going into labor in a car on the Sherwood Island Connector at about 8:40 a.m. Friday morning.

“Desk Officer Rice gave the male caller medical instructions as police officers, firefighters and paramedics were responding,” a news release from the Westport Police Department states.

Officer Robert Myer was first on scene and within one minute he advised headquarters that the mother gave birth, police said.

“Officer Myer gave medical treatment to the baby and mother until paramedics arrived for transport to the hospital.”

The mom, dad and the baby were all safe and healthy.
