The initial investigation has shown the victim left the Black Duck Café in Westport with Larkin and McIntyre after being invited to attend an after-hours party at Larkin's home. The victim's sister and a friend followed them in another vehicle and either by accident or by design the two vehicles were separated.

According to police, the sister contacted Fairfield police after she was unable to make contact with her sister in the belief that the house was located in Fairfield. When the house could not be located, Westport police were asked to check the Westport address. The victim was located at 28 Stony Brook Road but did not immediately indicate any problem and asked for a ride home. Once the victim was in the presence of a female Fairfield police officer she stated she was the victim of a sexual assault, according to the report.

After learning of the assault, Westport officers responded back to 28 Stony Brook Road but found it empty. The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment.
