Westport Teen Crashes, Gets DUI Nearly Three Times Adult Limit

Westport police arrested the minor after he failed several alcohol-related tests.

 

Matthew Jerome, 19, of 111 Wilton Road, Westport was charged just after 7 p.m. May 5 with operating under the influence and following too closely after he had been involved in a minor motor-vehicle accident on Wilton Road and Newtown Turnpike, police said.

When officers spoke to Jerome, he was slurring his speech and a strong odor of alcohol was detected on his breath, according to police.

Jerome failed the field sobriety tests police gave him and was taken into custody. He submitted to the breath test with the following results: .2310 and .2144, police said. He was unable to post $2,500 bond and was transported to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment.
