Westport Thief Steals Wallet, Cell Phone

The accused thief allegedly stole a cell phone and wallet from a female victim at about 2 a.m. Friday.

When the accused thief lifted up his arms to show police he had nothing to hide, a wallet fell from the inside of his shirt, police said.

While on routine patrol an officer saw a man and woman on the corner sidewalk of Church Lane. While speaking with both individuals, the officer saw the suspect lift up the left side of his shirt and hide a dark colored object under his armpit, police said.

When asked what he was trying to hide, the man lifted both his arms in the air to show his hands and the dark object, which happened to be the woman’s wallet, fell out from under his shirt, according to police. The suspect was then patted down, and the victim’s cell phone was also found on him.

The victim alleged that the suspect had taken those items from her without her knowledge or permission, police said. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Interested in Westport's news, events, community bulletins, blogs and businesses? Sign up for the free Westport Patch daily newsletter, "like" us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Westport police charged a 46-year-old Westport man  with sixth-degree larceny.
