Within an Hour, Firefighters Respond to Two Accidents

Hopefully this is not the start of a trend due to today's snow.

The Westport Fire Department responded to two motor vehicle accidents by 8 a.m. today.

Around 7 a.m., the department, with the help of State Police and Westport EMS, responded to Interstate 95 northbound between exits 17 and 18 near the Hales Road overpass for a two-car motor vehicle accident with injuries. Firefighters found a car into the median with a driver complaining of neck and back injuries. The driver of the other vehicle that ended up in the right side travel lane reported no injuries.

Firefighters assessed the injuries of the driver in the first vehicle, assisted Westport EMS removing the driver, and placing them on a back board and stretcher for transport to Norwalk Hospital. Vehicle travel was limited to a single lane northbound for about 25 minutes until both vehicles were removed by Westport Service Center and Riverside Sunoco.

Soon after clearing the first accident, the fire department responded to Post Road East around 8 a.m. for another two-vehicle accident with one car reported smoking. Firefighters found one car on the right side of the road, with front air bags deployed and the driver reporting a hand injury. The reported smoke condition was from the air bag activation. The other vehicle was found in the center travel lane with the driver reporting no injuries. Westport EMS responded and transported the injured driver to Norwalk Hospital.
