An arrest was made Wednesday following a nearly yearlong investigation into an alleged sexual assault in Westport.
Joseph Carey, 23, of Bridgeport, was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor on Oct. 23.
According to police, Carey turned himself in on an outstanding warrant stemming from a November 2012 incident where he allegedly choked and sexually assaulted a female juvenile that was visiting her family for Thanksgiving. The Westport Police Detective Bureau Youth Division conducted the investigation, according to police.
Carey was released on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 1.
