League of Women Voters Offers Death Penalty Legislative Update

Repeal of the death penalty in Connecticut is currently under legislative review, and in the interest of informing the public about this timely issue, the League of Women Voters of Connecticut will hold an educational session on Monday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the McManus Room of the Westport Public Library.  There is no charge for the event, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Ben Jones, Executive Director of the Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty (CNADP), will be the guest speaker.  He will discuss the death penalty, its legislative implications, and how to get involved in the campaign to end the death penalty in Connecticut.   A graduate of the Ph.D. program in Political Science at Yale University, Mr. Jones, in his current position, directs the CNADP’s lobbying, media and organizing activities.

Ellen McBride, Death Penalty Specialist for the LWVCT and a member of the League of Women Voters of Westport, will lead the discussion and the Q & A session following the presentation.
