First Selectman Issues Recommended Evacuation Order for Parts of Westport

The evacuation shelter is Long Lots Elementary School.

Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff issued a recommended evacuation order on Saturday to all residents in low-lying areas, according to Westport Now.

Robocalls are currently being sent out to those affected. A map of flood-prone areas in Westport can be found here.

The town's evacuation center is located on at 13 Hyde Lane and will open at 6 p.m. Pets will be accepted.

Joseloff also urged residents in a statement released on Friday to move their cars to higher ground before rain begins to fall.

"There will be those who will refuse to evacuate and prefer to ‘ride out’ the storm," he said Friday. "They will do so at their own peril. They should be aware that our emergency services will not respond to last minute evacuation requests as waters rise, risking the lives of first responders."
