Himes Takes Applications for Service Academies Till Dec. 2

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes will accept applications for his nominations to various military and other service academies up until Dec. 2, 2013.

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes announced in his constituent newsletter that he's accepting applications for him to nominate students for United States military colleges. Here's the announcement:

One of my favorite duties as a Member of Congress is nominating the best and brightest young men and women of Connecticut’s 4th District to our nation’s service academies. I invite any highly motivated, well-rounded, successful student to consider applying to these prestigious schools. Our nation’s service academies develop students physically, ethically, and intellectually as they build the foundation for a challenging and rewarding career as a military officer.

Deadline

The deadline to apply for a nomination from my office to the Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy in Annapolis, the Merchant Marine Academy in New York, or the Air Force Academy in Colorado for the 2014 school year is December 2, 2013. The Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut does not require a nomination, but if you are applying to the Coast Guard Academy and would like to be considered for a nomination, please submit your materials by the December 2 deadline.

Eligibility

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must receive a nomination from an authorized person, such as a Member of Congress. I may nominate applicants who legally reside within the boundaries of Connecticut's 4th Congressional District. Applicants must also meet the following requirements:

  • Over 17 years old but not have passed their 23rd birthday
  • United States citizen;
  • Unmarried;
  • Not pregnant;
  • Have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.

Applications

Interested applicants should download this application packet to start the process. Remember, the completed application is due to my office by 5:00 p.m., December 2, 2013.
