Letter: Marpe & Kaner to Lead Westport Forward

[Editor's note: The following letter to the editor was submitted by Rick Towers.]

Having known Jim Marpe for all of his almost 25 years in Westport, I believe he lives his campaign motto “Leadership Matters”. He has always happily contributed his time and strong leadership talents. Examples I am personally aware of are at the Family Y and the Stamford Symphony, in addition to being Moderator of our Greens Farms Congregational Church and as co-chair for our recent 300th anniversary celebration.

Jim’s experience is incomparable – first in business with decades of managing financial and information technology consulting, and more recently in government, serving Westport for years on the Board of Education, including as Vice Chairman. He is thus uniquely qualified to lead us and to develop the financial sustainability to carry forward our Triple-A bond rating to future Westporters, and to keep our schools among the best in the country.

But Jim is not just a financial manager and problem solver. He listens intently and investigates carefully before acting.  And, perhaps best of all, he is by nature nonpartisan, which is exactly the manner in which our great town should be led.  Further, with the wonderful matching skills of his running mate, Board of Finance Chairman Avi Kaner, they are a perfect combination to successfully lead Westport into the future.
