Letter: McGovern Brings Leadership to Westport School Board

[Editor's note: The following letter to the editor was submitted by Kristin LaFleur.]

I would like to encourage my fellow Westporters to join me in re-electing Mike McGovern to the Westport Board of Education.

During his tenure on the BOE, Mike has demonstrated exceptional leadership, proposing key initiatives that prepare our students for a dynamic and ever-changing world.  Mike was the driving force behind increasing the number of foreign language credits our students need to graduate and in establishing an award-winning course in financial literacy at Staples.  He also led the charge to decrease second grade class size, ensuring that our younger students develop strong foundations for learning.

Moreover, through his twenty five years of experience in investment banking, Mike brings a level of financial professionalism to the Board’s stewardship of our school system’s $100 million operating budget.  He is detailed oriented and is always willing to ask the difficult questions that ensure our students keep receiving the quality education they deserve and that our tax dollars are spent effectively and efficiently.

I served with Mike on the Board of Education, so I know firsthand what a valuable asset he is and how dedicated he is to our schools and our kids.  Please join me in voting to re-elect Mike McGovern to the Board of Education on Nov. 5.
