New Chairman of Parks and Recreation Commission Appointed

First Selectman Jim Marpe has appointed Charlie Haberstroh as the new Chairman of the Westport Parks and Recreation Commission this week.

Marpe thanked former Chairman Andy Moss for his "diligent and extensive" work as the Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman. Moss will continue in his role as Chairman of the Compo Beach Site Improvement Committee and will also serve as Co-Chairman of the Youth Commission.

"The quality of our services, especially the Longshore Club Park, Compo Beach and the rest of our parks and recreational facilities, is a key priority for my administration,” said Marple. “I am confident that Charlie will be able to work with my administration and the Parks and Recreation staff to identify those key elements necessary to improve the recreational experiences for our residents.”

Haberstroh has served the town for the past 12 years as an RTM member, Board of Finance member, and on the Board of Selectmen.

"As a result, Charlie knows first hand the many issues we face regarding Westport’s parks and recreational facilities,” said Marpe. “His long experience in the RTM and Board of Finance will enable him to work closely with the funding bodies to help obtain their approval for our ambitious plans to improve Westport’s parks and recreational facilities.”
