State Rep. Gail Lavielle Resigns From Wilton Board of Finance

“There’s simply no way to do it,” Lavielle, who represents Wilton, Norwalk and Westport, told The Hour of Norwalk.

Due to growing demands from her committee work in the state House of Representatives, Rep. Gail Lavielle (R-143) has reportedly announced her resignation from the Wilton Board of Finance.

“There’s simply no way to do it,” Lavielle, who represents Wilton, Norwalk and Westport, told The Hour of Norwalk. She has served on the Board of Finance for three years and her term was up come December. She announced her resignation at the board meeting on Jan. 15, according to the report.

Lavielle, a ranking member of the legislative Commerce Committee, was recently appointed to the the General Assembly’s Education, Higher Education and Appropriations committees. Last year she saw a sliver of Westport added to the list of towns she represents through a redistricting.

Lavielle leaves the Board of Finance at the start of what will likely be a challenging budget season: The board has asked the Board of Education and Board of Selectmen to hold their respective budget increases to less than 1.75% — however Superintendent of Schools Gary Richards' 2013-2014 preliminary budget request represents a 4.39 percent increase.
