Town Budget Wrapped Up, School Budget Tonight

More than $400,000 was reduced from the town budget. The school budgets goes to bat tonight.

After two days of , the Board of Finance reduced First Selectman Gordon Joseloff’s proposed town budget by more than $400,000. The total budget stands at $66.2 million.

The larger school budget has yet to be determined, but the town side of the 2011-12 budget is a 2.71 percent from the current fiscal year.

The changes include:

  • $50,000 cut from the Personnel Department
  • $75,000 cut from the Finance Department
  • $75,000 from Information Technology
  • $100,000 cut from Westport’s funding of the Norwalk Transit District
  • $80,000 cut from Parks and Recreation
  • $22,500 from the health insurance fund
  • $250 was restored to the Registrar of Voters

The cut money is not final, as First Selectman Gordon Joseloff can ask the Board of Finance for restoration. Tonight, the Board of Education's $112 million budget will be scrutinized at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
