U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy Pays a Visit to Westport

Murphy stopped at the Westport Library Monday.

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy paid a visit to Westport Monday as part of his plan to stop in each of the state's 169 municipalities.

Murphy met with the Democrats' candidate for First Selectman Helen Garten and her running mate, Melissa Kane, as well as other candidates for the upcoming elections.

Members of Staples High School's Young Democrats and Junior State of America also had their time to discuss issues with Murphy -- chief among them the impending start of the school year.

Before he left, Murphy was gifted with a Westport Little League New England Championship T-shirt.

He predicted Trumbull's 1989 World Series win will be a distant memory should Westport go all the way in Williamsport.

"It'll be all about remembering where you were when Westport won the championship," he said.
