Westport Board of Finance Chair Endorses Obsitnik for Congress
A letter to the editor from Westport Board of Finance Chair Avi Kaner
As chairman of Westport’s Board of Finance, I’m keenly aware of the financial challenges facing our local communities in Fairfield County. Therefore, I feel that I am in a unique position when I say unequivocally that Steve Obsitnik is best qualified to represent our towns and cities in Congress.
1) Creating and keeping jobs in Fairfield County requires a commitment to provide favorable conditions for businesses to thrive. Over-regulation and over-taxation continue to prevent local businesses from expanding. Connecticut’s unemployment rate has skyrocketed since 2007, to as high as 9.5%. We must stop this job bleeding. Steve has the experience and is best-positioned to bring in new business while maintaining the health of existing businesses. Steve was successful in navigating a company through the recession, hiring new employees along the way.

2) The Federal debt is spinning out of control. Of this past year’s $3.6 trillion budget, $1.3 trillion was borrowed to pay our bills. Each year a greater percentage of our tax dollar goes to paying interest on these loans, without even paying down the principal. Imagine if your local town conducted itself in this manner. I know that I would not be re-elected if Westport handled its finances in the irresponsible manner that Congress currently does. Steve is committed to helping to correct this nationwide problem that affects each of our families and children.
Steve Obsitnik also represents the history of our Congressional district as a social moderate. He is pro-choice, and as the proud son and grandson of immigrants, he understands what it means to "work one's way up." Steve is the perfect Congressional candidate for Fairfield County. I encourage you to please join me and cast your vote for Steve Obsitnik on Tuesday, November 6th.
