When I am flying a single-line kite at , the most common acknowledgement I get from kids is, “Nice kite Mister.” Okay, it’s nice to be noticed, but even I know they are not being sincere. What gives them away are the smug looks over their shoulders as they speed away on their bicycles. Usually I just smile and yell, “Thanks, guys," which pleases them no end, thinking that I bought their masked sincerity.
What I would like to say to them is that I am a cool guy! I autocross a Mini Cooper S, and I stared in a commercial autocrossing for them. I play guitar in a band, write songs, and even owned a record shop in Liverpool, home of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Okay, maybe they are too young to remember the Beatles, but my best friend’s brother booked the acts at the Cavern and even hung out with Paul. My cousin’s lighting company toured with Coldplay several years ago, and I met Chris Martin and the other band members back stage after a concert.
So you see kids, there is more to the person flying that single-line kite than meets the eye …. and sky!
