There are several local stores that sell kites. In Westport, The Age of Reason located at 19 Post Road West has a small selection of diamond kites. Blinns
Toy Store located at 50 Unquowa Place, Fairfield, The Toy Chest located at 101
Main Street, New Canaan and Wilton’s Heritage Hobbies located at 33 Danbury
With the increase of on line sales and, unfortunately, the dying demand for kites, there are no stores in Connecticut that specialize in the sale of kites. I would say that approximately 90% of the kites and accessories I have purchased in recent years have been from on line websites. The websites I like best are Gomberg Kites (www.gombergkites.com), Into The Wind (www.intothewind.com), Fun With Wind (www.funwithwind.com), Cobra Kites (www.cobrakite.com), Harbor Wind and Kites (www.harborwindkite.com) and Chicago Kites (www.chioagokites.com). All these on line stores carry a large selection of kites and accessories.
If you are planning to be in the hobby for some time, you many consider joining The American Kite Flyers Association (A/K/A). Most of the websites I mentioned give a 10% discount to AKA members. It will not take long before you recoup your membership fee. Check them out at www.aka.kite.org.
You can join local kiters at Sherwood Island State Park on Wednesdays at 5:00pm during September. Wind conditions will be reported on Twitter at USAKiters at 4:30pm.
