Self Loathers Anonymous: Tigers Jaw

So good you'll cry.

What music am I most excited about this week? Tigers Jaw!

Tigers Jaw is an indie rock band based out of Scranton, PA. I started listening to them this winter, but I didn't really get excited about them until very recently.I saw them play at Bamboozle and pretty much lost my mind; it was definitely one of my favorite live sets I've ever watched.

So you're probably thinking, "Alright, I've seen about 18 million "indie" bands from the east coast and tri-state area this year. They've all got no money, a lot of emotion, and a girl who plays keyboard. So, I should be impressed by Tigers Jaw...why?"

Here's the thing about Tigers Jaw. They're really into the whole "I sort of suck," mentality but they're somehow very good at making it seem positive. With hauntingly catchy keyboard riffs, steady guitar, and lyrics that will send chills down your spine, Tigers Jaw is one emotional joyride you will not regret. Not to mention they're damn fun to listen to in the car, seeing as frontman Adam's voice is so despondent, even tone deaf listeners will be able to match his crys. Someone broke Adam's heart, and believe me, you're going to love hearing about it.

Basically, the number one reason why I listen to Tigers Jaw is because of the amount of passion that goes into creating and playing their music. And although they may not be everyone's cup of tea, Tigers Jaw is a band whose listeners span a wide range of scenes, and although they most neatly fall into the category of "indie rock", a large portion of their fan base are members of the pop punk and hardcore communities. And I think that's because they're so passionate; most true lovers of music will see a visceral intensity in Tigers Jaw that is sadly absent in many of today's rock acts.

But enough of me singing their praise, see for yourself! Check out their tracks "Plane vs. Tank vs. Submarine", "I Was Never Your Boyfriend" and my personal favorite, "Spirit Desire" to get a taste of some delicious music.

And listen to one of my favorite songs by them here.

I think you'll find that with  Tigers Jaw, feeling bad feels pretty good.
