Live Well Workshop Promotes Healthy Living

Westport Human Services Director Barbara Butler announced the presentation of the “Live Well” Program at the Westport Center for Senior Activities beginning in January.

“The Live Well free workshops are designed to help those who struggle to manage diabetes, arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure, heart or lung disease, pain, depression or other chronic health conditions,” said Butler.

 Primary caregivers are also invited to attend the Live Well workshops.

On Monday, Jan. 24, there will be an Introductory Information session at 1 p.m. at the Center, located at 21 Imperial AVenue, Westport. The six-week program will be held on Mondays beginning Jan. 31, at 1 p.m., except Monday, President’s Day, Feb. 21.

 Participants will learn how to take charge of their life and health condition by learning techniques to deal with isolation, frustration, fatigue and pain. Other workshops will include learning how to make a successful action plan, suitable exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance, appropriate use of medications, how to communicate your feelings effectively with family, friends and health professionals and nutrition information.

The program is open to the public at no charge. Butler recommends interested persons make a reservation for the Introductory Session by calling the Center at 203-341-5099.

 The Live Well program is a collaborative effort of the Westport Human Services Department and the Westport-Weston Health District, the Southwestern Agency on Aging and the United Way of Coastal Fairfield County.
