Screenwriting Immersion

You have a great story idea that you know would make a great feature length film. But how do you make that idea spring to life in script form? How do you write a great screenplay that's compelling, cinematic, and has the potential to grab the attention of a studio or production company?

Join screenwriter GiGi New for an intensive workshop that will introduce and guide you through the screenwriting craft. We will cover an array of topics that pertain to delivering a strong script for today's market.

These include topics such as:

  • Character Development: Characters are the most important element to making your story believable and rich. How do you bring them to life in a script?

  • Genre: Comedy or a drama? Thriller or horror? Coming-of-age? Do you know what category your idea falls into?

  • Beginning your script: How do you create those first few pages that will leave the reader wanting more? Making the first few pages pop off of the page is vital.

  • The Marketplace: How to make your script attractive to the marketplace including studios, producers, and agents.

  • Your idea: We will go around the room and discuss any ideas that you may have for a screenplay. Please note that this will be entirely optional, if you want to share.

This workshop is appropriate for seasoned as well as new writers.

GiGi New has developed numerous features for several studios and independent producers. More recently she has written film scripts and developed material for Aqua Entertainment, Gunn Films, The Walt Disney Company, Maya Entertainment, Avalanche Entertainment, and Underground Films. She has also developed and pitched numerous movie ideas to studios.

Currently she has three screenplays in active development, with one script being slated to shoot in the spring of 2012.

GiGi has taught workshops in TV script and screenwriting at IFP (Independent Filmmaker Project) and The Loft, in Minneapolis. She also coaches writers of all levels, from seasoned authors to newbie writers who have never put an idea on the page. GiGi helps them craft their ideas or stalled screenplays into a professional script.

"I've been consulting with GiGi New on a screenplay which was stalled for years and now is moving. She's a positive critic who identifies strengths in a piece and helps overcome the corrosive self-doubt that writers struggle with. Writing will always be a solitary line of work but GiGi makes it less so. And she laughs a lot, which is good."
