Dr. Elliott Landon is proposing a 2.9 percent increase in the Westort Public Schools budget for 2010-2011.

At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Westport Board of Education heard an overview of the proposed 2010-2011 budget for Westport Public Schools.

Superintendent Elliott Landon has proposed a $97.3 million budget for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year.

That's a 2.9 percent increase over the current school year's $94.6 million budget.

During the meeting, Landon said two secretarial positions would be cut and one high school English teacher would be added. He also said he did not restore any funding for cuts that were made last year, such as music lessons at Staples High School and paraprofessionals to staff elementary school libraries.

"Essentially we held the line to zero in every instance that we could," Landon said.
